Last autumn, we had the fantastic opportunity to host our Sew Like a Pro workshops at the Institute of Thrifty Ideas in Stockton. These relaxed, drop-in sessions brought together a wonderful group of people eager to explore the art of sewing and pattern cutting. Whether you were a beginner or simply dusting off your sewing skills, everyone was welcome to join and learn at their own pace. The hands-on experience was not only educational but also enjoyable, with lots of laughs and creativity shared amongst the participants. Special thanks go to Niamh for her invaluable help in making these workshops run smoothly and successfully!
Throughout the series, attendees had the chance to bring in their favourite clothing items to learn how to make patterns and sew something new. Whether it was making alterations for style and fit or using one of our provided patterns to create a fresh garment, there was something for everyone. From sharpening basic sewing skills to mastering more advanced techniques, participants were able to polish their craft in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. With all materials, including sewing machines and overlockers provided, everyone had the tools they needed to create something special.

The workshops were a great reminder of how empowering and accessible sewing can be. By the end of the series, many left with a new sense of confidence and a few extra garments to wear proudly. With a focus on creativity and community, these workshops helped build not only sewing skills but also lasting connections. Following on from the Sew Like a Pro series we will be diving deeper into making with Costume Creations…coming soon…

“I really enjoyed the sew like a pro workshop, everyone was so welcoming and I had so much fun improving my sewing skills!“
“Absolutely, LOVED this course. Lindsay and Niamh were so patient with us and willing to help and answer our questions. It brought back the love of using a sewing machine and dressing making as well as learning new techniques and I just want to learn more!“
